Hydrogen Train Launch Marks a New Era of Green, Safe and Future-Ready Rail Transport in India.
Indian Railways Today News – 19 July 2026

Indian Railways has achieved a historic milestone with the successful launch of India's first indigenous hydrogen-powered passenger train, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana. The zero-emission train operates using advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology, emitting only water vapour and marking a significant step towards sustainable and green railway transportation. This achievement places India among a select group of nations operating hydrogen-powered trains.

Alongside this landmark achievement, Indian Railways continues to modernize its infrastructure through the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which 75 redeveloped railway stations across the country have been inaugurated with upgraded passenger amenities, improved accessibility, and modern facilities.

Rail safety remains a major priority with the continued expansion of the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System, strengthening operational safety by helping prevent collisions and signal-passing incidents on key railway routes.

Indian Railways is also accelerating its vision of becoming a safe, smart, green, and digitally connected railway network through investments in clean energy, advanced technology, station modernization, and enhanced passenger services. These initiatives support India's long-term goals of Viksit Bharat 2047, sustainable mobility, and Net Zero emissions.
